Thor: Ragnarok
- MILD spoiler FOR THOR : RAGNAROK BELOW *
Director Taika Waititi has call one of the scenes inThor : Ragnarokthat was changed during reshoots , explaining why Hela ’s end of Thor ’s hammer was move from a dingy alleyway to a green idyllic athletic field . The tantrum in interrogation – of Cate Blanchett ’s black - clad villainsmashing Mjolnir in the palm of her hand – was recently resign as a clip .
Fans had beenspeculatingabout this modification , since both version of the scene were included in the trailers for the movie . And now that theThorthreequel ’s press tour is underway – leading to such treats as Kevin Feige chat about afemale Thor , and some discourse ofLady Sif ’s absencefrom the picture - it was only a matter of metre until someone need Waititi about why the pounding - smashing scene was altered .
It wasDigital Spythat got there first , asking Waititi in a TV interview why this pivotal moment - which take place after Thor and Loki ’s reunion with Odin - was moved from a throttle New York back street to an open field . Waititi ’s answer started off sarcastic ( “ alley are n’t cool . Fields are coolheaded . Ask anyone ” ) , before stupefy serious . Here ’s the logical thinking Waititi establish for the variety :
" We originally shoot some of that stuff on the lot of our stuff in New York . What we wanted to do was have them go down to Earth and they see Doctor Strange and stuff but it felt too convenient that he was dead just down the route in an back street and also everything , up to then , everything was so fast - paced and all over the place . We wanted to go somewhere peaceful and in reality cool down out with those type and be with Odin while he imparts this wiseness and stuff and not have to try stupid yellow cabriolet honking out the back . "
Further explaining the decision , Waititi stressed that the New York alleyway set"just felt like a wicked environment to have a scene that could be very emotional,“and that it was"important for us to be in a beautiful peaceful environment . “It ’s easy to see where he ’s coming from , as the Odin scenes flirt out quite tenderly in the finished film . The field of operations is a more suitable venue , but moving Odin out of New York meant switch Hela ’s hammering - break prank to the new localization as well .
It has become common for fans to colligate a declamatory amount of reshoots with a pic potentially being in trouble , despite the practice by no means being a unexampled one in Hollywood . The disruptive productions of such films asRogue One , Suicide Squad , andJustice Leagueare partially to thank for this growing percept , although the wide praisedRogue Oneproves that all-encompassing reshoots are n’t necessarily a signal that the last product will be bad . In this character though , it seems fair to indicate that Waititi had a good ground to reshoot the cloth , and it at long last end up ameliorate the film .
