As Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets going with this year’sCaptain America : Civil War , two of the bigger Marvel players , Thor and the Hulk , will be lacking in 2016 , and instead will be returning back to the cosmos inThor : Ragnarokin 2017 . Also riposte to the Marvel Universe is actor Idris Elba , who plays Heimdall - and many question what the Asgardian hero will do in the thirdThorfilm . A raw report suggests that Elba ’s persona may have a crowing theatrical role fix up for him in the nextThorfilm .
Thor : Ragnarokwill not only center on on the titular character , but he will be sharing the space with Bruce Banner / The Hulk ( Mark Ruffalo ) . Ruffalo has even comparedRagnarokto a“road movie”and even cite its similarity to the filmMidnight Run . In addition to the Hulk , Asgard will be seeing a new scoundrel in its mist - possibly , in the shape of Norse goddess Hela , rule of the Underworld . Many fans have suspect that Hela ( who might be played by actressCate Blanchett ) would sprain up in the MCU because of Thor ’s infernal visions inAvengers : Age of Ultron . The comer of such a villain mayhap marry to the role Elba ’s Heimdall plays in the outcome ofRagnarok .

According toLatino Review , Elba may play an of import persona in the Ragnarok tale … though , it might not seem that way at first :
“ According to LR ’s generator about the developing THOR : Twilight of the Gods story , Hela will take Asgard and , Thor attempt to kibosh her . Hela lays the smackdown on the God of Thunder , destroying his hammer and straight up murdering Thor ’s Quaker Heimdall ( Idris Elba ) . ”
Here ’s the twist , though : with Hela ’s abilities to command the dead , Heimdall would n’t be bolt down off for nothing :
“ But do n’t worry , Elba wo n’t submit out of the MCU so easy . The terminal showdown with Hela will feature an army of the dead commanded by the villainess doing battle with good Valkyries from Valhalla and the soul of the righteous fallen , including Heimdall . ”
While Elba ’s character reference has stand on the pursuit for the majority of the first twoThormovies , he ’s now fit to be put at the cutting edge of the conflict between Hela and Thor . With the go up popularity of the actor , it ’s no surprise that he ’s given a big role in the third film .
On the other deal , there could be another reason for the actor capture a larger role in the thirdThorfilm . With Chris Hemsworth ’s declaration up afterAvengers : Infinity War , this could be one of the last Thor movies , at least withthe same actor . Plus , withThorandThor : The Dark Worldbeing among thelowest - grossing moviesin the MCU right now ( only in front ofAnt - Man , Captain America : The First Avenger , andThe Incredible Hulk ) , theThorfranchise might be nose down to an end . While Marvel is not one to vote down off beloved characters , Heimdall ’s demise may have a ring of finality to it , regardless .
