Thor: Ragnarok
Thor : Ragnarok ’s Grandmaster will team up - up with his brother the Collector in a future motion-picture show , if Marvel Studios chair Kevin Feige has his way . This past weekend , Ragnarokthundered past $ 100 millionat the box office thanks to its early international opening . That telephone number will go up considerably once the film liberate domestically and in China this week , in all probability direct to the biggest film in theThorfranchise yet . Even better , the movie has been proclaim by critic and buff likewise . While much of that is due to the visuals and direction of Taika Waititi , it ’s hard to refuse the electrical world power of the moving-picture show ’s mold .
Ragnaroknot only bring back Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston ( and wisely pulls in Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / Hulk ) , it also introduces a strong crop of newcomers . Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Cate Blanchett as Hela have been been receiving short ton of praise , but few can look past the immaculate casting of Jeff Goldblum as the eccentric Grandmaster . Not only does the character allow for a gross pairing of Waititi ’s and Goldblum ’s sensibilities , but it offers the Bob Hope of the Grandmaster eventually playing off of Benecio del Toro ’s Collector fromGuardians of the Galaxy .
Fandangospoke with Feige aboutThor : Ragnarokand talk quickly turned to The Collector and the Grandmaster ( who , for those not familiar , are sidekick ) . For Feige , he would absolutely love for Goldblum and del Toro to pair off in a next film as their idiosyncratic graphic symbol :
" It would be awesome humanity . It would be great . We sleep together the idea that they ’re pal . If you go on the Guardians of the Galaxy : Mission Breakout attraction at California Adventure in Anaheim , you will see a picture on Collector ’s wall of he and the Grandmaster play some variety of a space chess game , which justly now is the only shoes you could see the two of them in a frame together , but let ’s desire that changes someday . In the comics , the Grandmaster and the Collector are siblings and both Elders of the Universe . With geezerhood and power beyond most beings , the two spend their meter galavanting across the universe and pander in their namesake hobbies . Often , this causes them to unravel afoul of various heroes , given the twain ’s tendency for kidnapping individuals to add to their games and compendium , respectively .
Arguably , del Toro ’s Collector was one of the standout parts inGuardians of the Galaxy(which is saying something ) , and fan have been hop for his return ever since . The promise of him sparring with Goldblum ’s Grandmaster , however , would surely be a peak Marvel second . For now , fans will have to delight artistRyan Meinerding ’s art of the two together ( see the image above ) . Still , given how important the MCU cosmos will be to the franchise in the future tense , it seems honest to usurp that we have n’t seen the last of either The Grandmaster or The gatherer yet .
