The Irishman

200 minutes is usually the mark at which the " longest " movies begin to terminate up on lists . While there are many of these if we include all observational films and the like . We will cut down our option by focusing on Hollywood flick in particular . Some actors really enjoy epically long projects ( Charlton Heston and Elizabeth Taylor being two of them ) .

Charlton Heston starred in two films over three hours in duration , The Ten Commandments , andBen Hur , both clocking in at about 3 hour and 40 minute . Elizabeth Taylor starred in bothGiant , andCleopatra(which is over 4 60 minutes long). So , if you have a lot of prison term on your hands here are a few movies you might want a try , and a smattering to avoid .

Best - Gone with the Wind

While in hindsightGone with the Windhas a knotty storyline and some unfortunate depictions of thrall in the Confederate - era South , it ’s an epic technicolor journey   and is still   very watchable , even at over three hour long .

It ’s worth   a face   just for its quotable crinkle , " Frankly my beloved , I do n’t give a damn , " and the scene of wounded soldiers that ask for so many supernumerary that over had to be placed instead because there were not enough actors in the union .

Worst -  Hamlet

Kenneth Branagh ’s 1996 screen version of Hamlet is known from English classrooms all across the world . It certainly offers a very firm depiction of the Shakespeare dramatic play , though its commitment also create it a small bit dry to sit through .

It certainly does n’t help that Branagh ( as talented as he is ) took on the part of Hamlet himself . So , alternatively of watching a young prince mourn his Father-God and seek retaliation we watch Branagh , nearing 40 years old , take on the part instead .

Best - Lawrence of Arabia

David Lean was a film director who made more than one film stretch over three hours in length and there is a reason it was allowed because he knew what he was doing . Not only were his characters , like T.E. Lawrence ( portrayed by Peter O’Toole ) larger than sprightliness but his configurations , like the Arabian desert , were as well .

If you ’re going to watch anything for almost half a workday it should be beautiful , and Lean ’s panning shots of the desert sure enough are . With a grand setting , it makes sentiency for a films run time to be grand as well .

Worst - Nixon

Oliver Stone ’s 1995 biographic pic on President Richard Nixon was very well - review . It had a heck of a mould lead by Anthony Hopkins as the former President himself .

But , unlike David Lean , Stone did n’t just pick an larger-than-life report to say over an epically recollective period of time of time . There was really no reason that the picture show had been stretched to over three hours , despite great performances .

Best - The Right Stuff

Focusing not only on the agency ’s successes and failures but the relationships of the seven humans who would moderate the American program to the stars , there ’s enough to keep everyone paste to the filmdom the entire clock time .

Worst - Cleopatra

The sets are beautiful and so is star Elizabeth Taylor , butCleopatrawas and is a long cinema . Despite the taradiddle of the Queen of Egypt and her romish suer , the four hour campaign time was such a struggle for some that a three - hr interpretation of the movie was also released .

When there are two redundant - retentive rendering of the same flick it for sure stir some motion about the original production determination . It ’s quite a smell at Graeco-Roman Hollywood ’s excess when it came to sure stars and band , which is fun to look at , but maybe not for that long .

Best - The Godfather Part II

AsThe Empire Strikes Back , The Godfather Part IIis the best film in a strong trilogy and also pass to fall in the midsection .   A look back at the rise of Don Corleone alongside the rising of his youngest son , Michael , the way the plastic film is put together is genius . Despite being over three hours long , viewers never feel it , and that ’s part of the magic .

It ’s longer than the original movieGodfathermovie by almost a half an hour , but that extra metre is both well deserved and well used .

Worst - The Irishman

Despite its many Golden Globe nominations , The Irishmanis not only long but finger long when you watch it . And that ’s the trick with movies over three hr , if you’re able to sense it , you bed something is wrong . Sort of like a mashup of Martin Scorcese ’s corking hitsThe Irishmanfails to stand out or stand up on its own when compared to the master copy ’s other mob works .

While it ’s interesting to see de - ageing engineering it makes more sense to just watchGoodfellasagain to see a youthful De Niro .

Best - Return of the King

The last of theLord of the Ringsmovies won an Oscar for Best Picture for a cause . There were more battles and more special effects than the first two movies combined ( at least that ’s how it felt ) and it for sure needed metre to tie up all its easy plot threads .

In this Clarence Shepard Day Jr. and long time , you have to abide by a movie that call for a little supernumerary time to eat up its saga storytelling while not splitting the last chapter into two separate film just to squeeze out some extra hard currency from fans at the box office . Long live the Billie Jean King .

Worst - Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbordoes a decent line of work of offering up both human stories and giant action set pieces , but when you ca n’t believe the character whether they ’re babble to one another or pip at incoming Japanese airplanes , you know there ’s a trouble .

Like many films that would follow in its pace , a well - make love story and special effects are not enough to gain an audience ’s love . When watching anything for three hour a person wants to be drawn in , not contain surety .
