Rescue Me
It goes without saying this review will containMAJOR SPOILERSfor the series finale ofRescue Me- take on at your own peril .
With a flurry of questions running through the viewer ’s mind after witnessing the absolute majority of Ladder 62 being catch in a on the face of it unsurvivable explosion , it takes but mere moments from the beginning of the sequence before the first disconcerting image appear . Tommy , Sean ( Steven Pasquale ) , Franco ( Daniel Sunjata ) , Mike ( Mike Lombardi ) and “ Black Shawn ” ( Larenz Tate ) – the conversant characters have brought so many uproarious moments to the series – did not last the bam . Somehow , the ever dependable ( unless it ’s with letter of the alphabet and fire ) “ Lou ” survived with underage injuries , and now he must proverbially ferry his fallen comrades to the other side .
In a spoken communication that not only exemplify the really masterful treatment of words that Leary and Tolan possess , but also draw out tear in what may be the installment ’s most emotional import , John Scurti ( as Lieutenant Kenneth Shea ) delivers a performance so solid , so ended , so earnest , that one could easily mistake this to be a scene from an honour winning film .
… and then Tommy wakes up .
prove thatRescue Meis not beyond its familiar tricks of fake imagery filled with envisage actions , the reality and verity of what really happened is finally revealed . All of the previously mourn characters are , for all in intents and purpose , safe . alas , as the appearance of characters once suppose dead , it soon becomes apparent that someone is escape : Lou .
As Tommy live over the event that transpired during the course of last instalment ’s plosion , the scandalous truth that “ Lou ” did n’t survive the blast is shown to be the one and only red ink that Ladder 62 incurred .
Despite the fact that a week break separatedthe penultimate episodefrom theRescue Meseries finis , the ability to elicit an aroused response from those watch for the entirety of the series ’ stamp – even if only a single penis actually died – is a wonderfully poignant and commendable endeavor - one that could only be capably handled by someone with the natural endowment and dedication to the series and its devotee .
When a longtime serial such asRescue Mecomes to an closing , the hearing require to – on some level – be able to say goodbye to the characters they watched for so many age . Often times such series end with the dim-witted knowledge that the characters will be fine – and while that ’s a commendable feeler , it does n’t provide the same worked up decisiveness that many seek .
This is it ; this is the minute – if there was ever a clip when a beautifully planned rollercoaster of emotional confusion is welcomed , it ’s in the concluding episode . While some may say the opening half of theRescue Meseries finale is not an earnest overture to such an expected close , one can not traverse that the manipulation of this specific plot does n’t tally perfectly within the confines of whatRescue Mehas always submit as its stigma of storytelling – a brand of storytelling that became the intellect why many people ab initio tuned in .
Of of course , given that all of the aforementioned scenes pass within the course of the first one-half of the finale installment , there ’s still an entire 2d half left to go – and if there was a place to critique the treatment of events , this would be it .
Whether it be the aforesaid worked up drain that was the opening of theRescue Meseries finale , or the spirit that the series had come to an end before its allotted episode time was up , much of what occurs as theRescue Meseries close add up to an goal feel like the last chapter of a book that should have ended 20 pages sooner .
Despite these take note grievance , theRescue Meseries finale was still a wonderfully skilful conclusion to a series that , in and of itself , has been nothing short of a masterful rollercoaster of emotional intrigue through the life of one brilliantly disruptive judgement and his class , Friend and co - worker .
