However , thenewAvatar : The Last Airbenderlive - action trailerincludes Azula .
Comments fromAvatar : The Last Airbender ’s showrunner bespeak Azula ’s arcwill change from what was depicted in the animated show . As showrunner Albert Kim notes , the creators of the live action show know how integral Azula finish up becoming to the overall narrative by the ending of the show , which present them a unique opportunity . The most likely change will be to introduce Azula earlier than the oddment of season 1 , which should get a big job with her character .
New character posters for Netflix ’s resilient - action Avatar : The Last Airbender show highlight the science of Katara , Sokka , Aang , and Prince Zuko .
Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender Is Right To Give Azula A Bigger Role
Azula was largely absent from the animated show’s first season.
Azula play no role in the action surrounding Aang ’s journeying to the Northern Water Tribe , which should change for Netflix’sAvatar : The Last Airbenderlive action show . By introducing Elizabeth Yu ’s Azula in the beginning in the narrative , they can give her character a much magnanimous overall part in not only the Fire Nation ’s hunting for the Avatar , but in their attempted conquest of the ease of the world . Azula ’s surpassing firebending ability also increase the danger for Aang and his friends right aside , and let the alive action show to fully explore the different layer of firebending .
It ’s a great decision to give Azula a enceinte role early on , as she is a far superior baddie liken to season 1 ’s Admiral Zhao . Zhao is simply a power - hungry bully , easily dispatched by Aang in his Avatar land and even bested by Zuko in Agni Kai , the traditional firebending duel style . Beginning to build Azula as a superior scoundrel in the background will make her seem that much more forbidding as the narration progresses .
The Original Nickelodeon Series Didn’t Explore Azula’s Character Enough
Azula was a great villain, but there was very little insight into what made her tick.
One of the main shortcomings of Azula ’s character from the animated interpretation ofAvatar : The Last Airbenderwas her want of depth . While the show includes flashback to her and Zuko ’s upbringing , they depict her as a cruel , average nipper essentially from birth . The series often allude to her facing trauma in their house just as Zuko did , but at no point did it address why the two kid ’s personality deviate so significantly , aside from her immensely ranking firebending skills . Netflix ’s alive natural process show has the chance to dive into what makes Azula tick , which is great for her fictitious character .
Understanding why she is so cruel to Zuko and everyone else around her adds levels of deepness to her character that were missing in the animate show . She was a great antagonist for the entire discharge of the animated show , but she had little to no motivating outside of power , Fire Nation glory and favor with her father . If her inhuman treatment is the product of psychic trauma , the show can set her up as a more good-hearted reference , which should give her ending that much more weight .
