Sif is n’t the only distaff character lamentably underused by the MCU ’s Phase One – and beyond . Until Black Widow ’s role inThe Avengers , the distaff characters in Phase One were too often used as plot devices in Isle of Man ’s account . Similarly , the MCU pretty much ignores Sif afterThor 2 .
The fact that so many female MCU characters from Phase One were sidelined is only one part of a larger bankruptcy to represent a diverse range of characters in the first two phases of the MCU - and arguably Phase Three . It take more than ten years and twenty film before an MCU photographic film featured a distaff character in the star part , and it was only one class beforeCaptain MarvelthatBlack Pantherintroduced the first inglorious actor ( the previous Chadwick Boseman ) in a leading role - and the MCU has yet to portray a leading adult female of color . SinceThor , the MCU has introduced some howling distaff charactersbut has generally failed to provide a diverse reach of female and non - binary case with truly compelling and satisfying history .
The MCU can - and hopefully will - do right by the Modern female characters that Phase Four will stick in , but it still owes its Phase One guide women .
