AfterIron Flame’sending , Onyx Stormpromises to have the same action at law and thrill as the first two books ofThe Empyrean Series . But I also interest thatthe narration is run short to take a dark turn as Violet and many of my other favorite characters clamber to protect Basigathfrom internal and external threat . The covering and tagline forOnyx Stormtease that higher stake are coming , make me aflutter about what will happen next to these darling characters . Fourth Wing ’s eminent stakesis one aspect of the series I highly respect . The story is unafraid of hurting or killing characters to showcase how truly severe the world is , something other romantasy series deficiency at times . Onyx Storm ’s tagline and color scheme seem to hint that this trend will go along , making me excited , but also spooky .
Onyx Storm ’s black and white esthetical contrasts the bright yellow and red covers of the first two books . I can only surmise this will demonstrate howOnyx Stormwill honkytonk into the darker secrets Violet has only scratched the surface of at Basigathwhile Xaden battles with his venin nature . The tagline,“Brave The Dark”,also suggest this . It also potentially hint that Yarros will in all likelihood throw a few more twists into the admixture right before the final conflict with the venin . Not only would this raise the post , but it could also put many of my favourite characters flop in the crossfire .
I’m Worried About My Favorite Fourth Wing Characters After Seeing Onyx Storm’s Cover
Violet & Xaden Could Slip Further Into Despair As The Stakes Rise
I ’m worried about several characters inOnyx Storm , in particular the two leads , Violet and Xaden . Violet and Xaden ’s story inThe Empyrean Serieshas already been riotous as secrets and lie come between them over and over again . Now that Xaden is venin , I am disquieted that he will take out the classic " stay off from me , I ’m too dangerous to be around you " trope that many other male supporter do in stories . This would not only make his electric arc too predictable but could also lead to him giving into his venin nature more without Violet , causing further take .
I worry that , with Xaden becoming venin , Violet will continue this repressing pattern as she run for a cure , leading to her burning out .
For Violet , my vexation lie down more with her genial health . ThroughoutIron Flame , Violet feels she must do everything alone . She constantly shoves her impression into a mental corner rather than confront them , making each failure even more impactful on her . I care that , with Xaden becoming venin , Violet will continue this repressive design as she track down for a cure , leading to her burning out . That burnout could result in severe self - death , which could be added to by the rising stakes that might lay claim some of her friends inOnyx Storm .
Predicting Which Fourth Wing Characters Will Die In The Upcoming Sequel
Ridoc And Catriona Could Die In Onyx Storm
I predict Ridoc and Catriona could die inOnyx Storm , considering how their level went inIron Flame . ManyFourth Wingcharacterscould end up severely wound or beat , with Sawyer ’s injury at the Battle of Basigath show that Yarros is not afraid to aim The Iron Squad . Due to this and the rule of three , Ridoc could be the member of The Iron Squad to die . Ridoc dodge death twice in the last volume . Therefore , he may end up suddenly after a third instance . To me , that would be tragic since he is such a well - done comedic lineament .
Another potential dying would be Catriona . Her spark inIron Flame ’s 2nd part fail from her being an foe to an ally of Violet . In my opinion , this would make her and her last a great mirror to Jack Barlowe ’s plot line . Jack was also an enemy whose hate of Violet ’s power led to his ego - destruction . Catriona , meanwhile , grew to respect Violet , saving her during the Battle of Basigath . Her demise would allowOnyx Stormto keep the serial stake gamy while add together a great parallel to characters who postulate two different paths from the same mean kickoff .
Onyx Stormwill be released on January 21 , 2025 .
