Ser Criston Cole may be my most hatedHouse of the Dragoncharacter , but he does have some qualities that putGame of Thrones ’ outstanding knight to shame . AlthoughGame of Thrones ’ most crucial consequence and twists did not always have to do with battles or who had the bigger U. S. Army , the show did include a draw of military action and valued the importance of scheme in combat . The serial essay more than once that dandy battler do not needfully make for great loss leader and vice versa , with Robert Baratheon being a great example of it .
House of the Dragonalso explores the different challenges of being a warrior compared to being a loss leader , namely with the character of Ser Criston Cole . Even before Ser Criston was appointed asAegon II ’s young Hand of the King , the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard was already playing the “ game of thrones . ” When Ser Criston crown Aegon II , the Dornish knight positioned himself as a major role player in theDance of the Dragons . Criston Cole ’s petty resentfulness toward Rhaenyra has made him a rather dislikeable character , but I ca n’t deny his skills as a knight .
Criston Cole Is Way Better At War Strategy & Battles Than Jaime Lannister
Criston Cole is a good commander and strategist.
Ser Criston Cole was one of the skilful horse of his multiplication , whichHouse of the Dragonhas shown in episodes such as “ Fire in the Sky . ” As Lord Commander of the Kingsguard and one of the most important characters on the show , it is difficult not to compare Criston Cole withGame of Thrones ’ Jaime Lannister . As skilful as Jaime was – he joined the Kingsguard at 15 after all – Twyin Lannister ’s firstborn son was not that great of a strategist . Jaime made a mint of tactical mistake inGame of Thrones , including during the War of the Five Kings .
Ser Criston Cole is great at single combat but is also a right strategist .
Jaime fell into Robb Stark ’s trap and became a captive of the Starks . He also bomb to mentor and protect both of his boy , not to mention how his girl expire on his watch . Tyrion was often referred to as “ the smart one”when it hail to Tywin Lannister ’s inheritor . Ser Criston Cole is bully at single combat but is also a proficient strategist . Despite Aegon II ’s reckless decisiveness , I ’m sure that bringing Aemond and Vhagar to Rook ’s Rest is what make the Greens one of their first major victories in the Dance of the Dragons .

Criston Cole & Jaime Lannister Have Polar Opposite Kingsguard Reputations
Criston “made a king,” Jaime slayed one.
The stories of Criston Cole and Jaime Lannister mirror each other in a luck of way . WhereasCriston Cole is the “ Kingmaker”who betrayed the arguably lawful inheritor and almost literally made Aegon II king , Jaime Lannister is the “ Kingslayer”who murdered the military man he was sworn to protect . There is a story of cataclysm to Jaime ’s story that can not be compared to anything Criston went through , though . Still , both fiber were part of a war larger than them and ended up becoming instruments of more muscular people .
House of the Dragon is set before Game of Thrones , but time jumps lead some confused about how long it will cover . Here ’s the HotD timeline explain .
I also find it interesting how Jaime commence as a “ villain ” and is slow deconstructed to become a more complex character who even goes through a redemption electric discharge . Criston Cole , on the other hand , startsHouse of the Dragonas Rhaenyra ’s lover and defender and afterwards becomes one of her sorry foe . Criston Cole will get a gruesome death inHouse of the Dragonif it followsFire & Blood , whereas Jaime got a bittersweet conclusion inGame of Thronesin which he kick the bucket alongside Cersei during the burn of King ’s landing place .
