Summary
An important line inHouse of the Dragonseason 2 , installment 5 undermines the comparatively happy termination of Baela Targaryen , whose book tarradiddle conclude more favorably than other Targaryen part . Very few major characters make it out of the Dance of the Dragons alive , and even fewer have what could be considered “ glad ” endings thereafter . After all , the ultimatelywinner - less Dance of the Dragons endswith thedeaths of the majority of House Targaryen , the demise of nearly all dragon , and a meaning loss of powerin the kinsperson ’s time to come .
WhileLaenor Velaryon ’s endurance twistgives him an arguably happy ending by flee to Essos and living an anonymous life , Baela Targaryen has among the most prospering fates ofHouse of the Dragon ’s type after the war . However , this now does n’t seem to be the character after a conversation between Baela and Corlys inHouse of the Dragonseason 2 , installment 5 . By rejecting Corlys ’ proposal of marriage for her to be his heir to Driftmark and stating it ’s not what she desire , Baela ’s future in George R.R. Maritn’sFire & Bloodbook come along much more disappointing than before .
Why Baela Rejects Corlys' Wish To Make Her Heir To Driftmark In House Of The Dragon
Baela’s Targaryen Blood Runs Stronger
As Baela states inHouse of the Dragonseason 2 , instalment 5,“I am blood and fire . Driftmark must evanesce to salt and ocean . ”Baela ’s heart and mania lie in dragonriding , the skies , and a fiery tendency , not at the sea on a boat . Baela knows slight about the sea and would rather spend her hereafter patrolling the sky and flying on Moondancer , live in the style of a Targaryen dragonrider . In this means , Baela takes after her both her mother , Laena , and father , Daemon , whose lives are spent on dragonback as Targaryen royal house rather than as sailors of Driftmark .
House of the Dragon time of year 2 , episode 5 features a line that sets up a character ’s mysterious death that generator George R.R. Martin has yet to explicate .
Baela does n’t loathe her grandfather ’s passions or scorn her Velaryon inheritance , butshe turns down Corlys ’ offering because she make love she ’s not the correct soul to be the Lady of the Tides . Had she grow up preferring to voyage than fell , then Baela would have been the perfect choice to follow Corlys at Driftmark . Not to mention that she ’s plight to the heir to the Iron Throne , Prince Jacaerys Velaryon , Baela ’s ken is set on carrying on the legacy of House Targaryen and the customs of those with fire and stemma flowing through their vein .

Baela Targaryen Still Ends Up Being The Wife Of The Lord Of The Tides After Corlys' Death (Despite Not Wanting It)
Baela Marries Alyn Velaryon & Largely Remains At Driftmark
woefully , Fire & Bloodreveals that this optimistic ending is n’t on the dot what bump to Baela . or else , shedoes end up spending her future tense at Driftmark , but perhaps worse , as the married woman of the Lord of the Tides rather than the ruling Lady of the Tides . Prince Jacaerys Velaryon diesin the Dance of the Dragons during the Battle of the Gullet , with Baela shortly being hold engrossed by King Aegon II Targaryen at Dragonstone . After the state of war , Rhaenyra ’s young Word Aegon III Targaryen ascends the Iron Throne instead , with Baela also being without a firedrake due to Moondancer ’s demise .
Though she did n’t require a lifespan at Driftmark in House of the Dragon , this somewhat tragically becomes her reality .
When Aegon III ’s regent decide that Baela need to marry a politically beneficial suer , she flees from King ’s Landing to Driftmark and get hitched with her uncle Alyn Velaryon , whobecomes the Lord of the Tides after Corlys ’ last . WhileFire & Bloodonly extends to the first five years after the Dance of the Dragons , Baela largely remain at Driftmark and has two nestling with Alyn . As such , though she did n’t want a life at Driftmark inHouse of the Dragon , this somewhat tragically becomes her realness .
