However , the pair had left things on fearful terms , andDaemon has had several visions at Harrenhalthat have pushed him to fresh depths and some drastic decisions .
At first , it had seemed like Daemon ’s time at Harrenhal was create him reflect and regret upon what had encounter with Rhaenyra , as well as thing likeBlood and Cheese killing Jaehaerys Targaryen , apparently at his command . That ’s completely shift in time of year 2 , installment 5.Daemon now plan to use the United States Army in the Riverlands for himself- if he still has one - which completely upends his playscript tale .
Daemon Deciding He Wants To Be King Is A Major Change To His Book Story
This Doesn’t Happen In Fire & Blood
Despite Daemon take that he wants to be king , and very specifically not KingConsort , inHouse of the Dragonseason 2 , episode 5 being a momentous decision , this is not a plot of land line of credit that comes from George R.R. Martin’sFire & Blood . Although Daemon and Rhaenyra ’s relationship does have its rocky moments , particularly later on on , and he has always in demand power , there ’s none of the drama that presently exists in the show happening at the same point in the book . More pertinently , Daemon support Rhaenyra ’s claim to the Iron Throne from Harrenhal , and even helps her take King ’s landing place .
Already frustrated by his fall down out with Rhaenyra , Daemon ’s mother serves to remind him what he ’s long intellection : that the Iron Throne should ’ve been his , and that he can still go ahead and take it .
It’sDaemon ’s sight of his motherthat seemingly convince him once more that he should have been Viserys ' heir , and that the commode is his to take . Already spoil by his falling out with Rhaenyra , Daemon ’s mother serves to remind him what he ’s long thought : that the Iron Throne should ’ve been his , and that he can still go in the lead and take it . He has Team Black ’s big dragon ( who has a rider , anyway ) , he is raising an U. S. Army , he has a monolithic castle , he is prepared to do what Rhaenyra is not , so why should n’t he ? That will be Daemon ’s belief .
Even Daemon losing the support of the Riverlords is a passing from the rule book . He does use unsavory manoeuvre alongside the Blackwoods to help break the Brackens and more , but there ’s no citation of any sort of rebellion or repercussion ; instead , he gets the regular army he went to Harrenhal for . Once again , that is all in reinforcement of Rhaenyra .
devil dream about Aemond but seeing his own face or else tells a heap about both characters and sets up their futures in House of the Dragon .
What Will Happen With Daemon & Rhaenyra Now?
Can It Get Their Book Story Back On Track?
From this juncture , it is hard to visualize out howHouse of the Dragongets Daemon and Rhaenyra ’s story back on track . However , that presumably does need to come about , becausehe and Caraxes play a key part in taking King ’s landing place , and he has to abandon Harrenhal(which is then taken by Aemond and Criston Cole ) . Similarly , they also postulate the Riverlords on their side .
In the book , Daemon does forget King ’s Landing after its capitulation , and there ’s a major rift between him and Rhaenyra .
It ’s not beyond the realms of possibility that it has Daemon take King ’s landing place first , or both he and Rhaenyra make it at the same time , each push their claim . But something , surely , has to give . In the volume , Daemon does leave King ’s Landing after its evenfall , and there ’s a major rift between him and Rhaenyra . So it could just do that separation in the first place , but thenit has to invent a reason for Daemon to volitionally leave King ’s landing place without becoming king , or have Rhaenyra beat him , but that could just induce further issues ,
Take , for instance , the eventual , fatefulbattle between Aemond and Daemon , which befall above the God ’s Eye ( the lake that Harrenhal sits upon the shoring of ) . Daemon is largely separated from Rhaenyra at that full stop , but he ’s in the Riverlands ostensibly to witness Aemond for her , and does go and confront him . He may desire the fight with his nephew disregarding , but why do it - and chance his life - for a queen he does n’t support ?
The lay aside grace for Daemon may be that his mind is intelligibly being pretend byAlys Rivers . If he can reunite with Rhaenyra before it ’s too late , then maybe there ’s a hazard they can work out these differencesand take King ’s Landing together . But if he insists on going down this path , it ’s going to be interesting to see what bump to them .
It ’s a similar job with the Riverlands , which are crucial to the war effort but are now very much anti - Daemon , which essentially means anti - Rhaenyra too . He needs to somehow win back their documentation , but they are so opposed it ’s hard to see how . It might be the Freys ' growing influence or a steadying hand from the Tullys , or perhaps if the Lannister forces ( who are butt on on the Riverlands ) do too much damage , but it does call for to be reconciled because it ’s such a fundamental field of battle in the account .
Taking place about 172 years before the events ofGame of Thrones,House of the Dragontells the tale of the rise of the Targaryens, the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria. The popular HBO spinoff show first starred Milly Alcock and Emily Carey as Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower before they were replaced by Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke, who play the older versions of the characters. Also starring in the series is Matt Smith (Prince Daemon Targaryen) and Paddy Considine as Rhaenyra’s father, King Viserys Targaryen.
Alys and Daemon ’s scenes in House of the Dragon have been quite mysterious , and their latest fundamental interaction may tie into an sometime Bran Stark ledger theory .
Is Daemon The Villain In House Of The Dragon?
It’s Harder To Make A Case For Him Being One Of The Good Guys
With all of this , it raises the head whether Daemon is conjecture to be a villain inHouse of the Dragon . Not only that but , since Rhaenyra is the closest it has to a de facto main character reference and protagonist , and he is now directly opposing what she want , then it could even be ask if he isthevillain of her story . And the solution to that really reckon on what take place next .
Daemon is clearly a murderous rogue in both , but it ’s by all odds make him more bad than in force in the series so far .
Daemon is not an alone good soul , which is , of course of action , quite an understatement . House of the Dragonhas break down to lengths to remind viewers of that , often with changes to the book : he was creditworthy for the dying of his first married woman , Rhea Royce , in the show , which is n’t the case inFire & Blood . He choked Rhaenyra inHouse of the Dragonseason 1 ’s ending , another show invention . Now it has him wanting to be king , which does n’t happen in the book .

Daemon is understandably a homicidal rogue in both , but it ’s unquestionably make him more defective than dear in the series so far . With Aegon out of the equation for a while and Alicent wavering , it would seem to be allowing for Aemond ( and Cole alongside him ) to become an even bigger scoundrel , but he wo n’t come into unmediated engagement with Rhaenyra . To that end , it could well put up more of a showdown between Daemon and his wife and have him become a bigger antagonist in her story , at least untilHouse of the Dragonseason 3 .
House of the Dragon is correct before Game of Thrones , but time jumps left some confused about how long it will cover . Here ’s the HotD timeline explained .
Why House Of The Dragon Changed Daemon’s Book Story
There Are A Couple Of Possible Reasons
One reason whyHouse of the Dragonseason 2 changed Daemon ’s al-Qur’an story so much lies inwhat happens to him at Harrenhal inFire & Blood , which … is n’t very much , really . There ’s very little said about his sentence at the castling in the book , and he more or less disappear from view until taking King ’s Landing . That evidently ca n’t happen in the show , which is why it has introduced things like his imagination , and aid explicate some of the logical system behind this new plot line , because it take more narrative drama for him .
The show ’s neat fight does often come from her two near family relationship though - those being Daemon and Alicent .
Still , that does n’t quite traverse why it ’d make him counter towards Rhaenyra . The show ’s greatest conflict does often issue forth from her two close human relationship though - those being Daemon and Alicent . Much like itinvented Alicent and Rhaenyra ’s meetingas a means of building on that , this admit them to do it with Daemon too .
House of the Dragon ’s Targaryen Civil War will be split between those who are loyal to the " Green " or the " blacks , " as lead by Rhaenyra & Alicent .
Holy Scripture change inHouse of the Dragonare often easier than , say , Game of Thrones , becauseFire & Bloodis an in - macrocosm history book with conflicting sources , so there is no real truth to deviate from in most cases , at least not in the details of what fall out . The show also center on the struggle of its woman in the patriarchal club they exist in - and how they fight back against it and put up to it . Having Daemon want to be Billie Jean King over Rhaenyra does fit with that - it just causes a hatful of other complications going forward .
